Moisture Mapping

A moisture meter reading taken at one spot proves very little. Mapping takes readings in a grid and plots them, so the gradient shows where water enters and how far it has travelled. Combined with plumbing isolation, it separates a leak from rising damp, condensation or a waterproofing failure.
How it is applied
Four controlled steps

Grid the area
Affected walls and floors are divided into a consistent grid, with fixed heights and intervals.

Take calibrated readings
Pin and non-invasive meters record moisture content at each node, with the meter's calibration checked first.

Plot the gradient
Readings are plotted on a plan so the wettest core and the direction of travel are visible.
- 04
Correlate with plumbing
The plot is compared with pressure test results to confirm or exclude a concealed pipe.

Limits and conditions
Readings are relative and affected by plaster salts, tile adhesive and recent rain. Interpretation matters as much as the instrument.
